This was day 2 and the light was fading fast. The cold was starting to bite a bit. But, we were still having fun. That's a Fox AE 12g in my hand on the left. LD and Rockdoc will have to chime in on what they hunted with that day.

Im back in Austin, arrived about 4:00pm yesterday. I had my first pheasant dinner last night. Pheasant Marsala with pasta, ummm so good! It gets even better; on the way home I stopped at a friends and traded some pheasant for some vacuum sealed frozen Alaskan halibut and salmon he caught recently. Pheasant, salmon, and halibut, I be eatin good over the holidays! This was probably one of the best hunts Ive been on, plenty of game, great partners to hunt and party with after the hunt, a house full of drop-dead beautiful shotguns, a terrific host and hostess. It just doesnt get any better! I did all my hunting with my 5 lb, 16 gauge French guild gun. Nash Buckingham had Bo Whoop, I have my Frogger. Because of personal issues at home, I havent been hunting or even done much shooting in 3 long years, what an incredible way to break the drought! I want to publicly thank everyone I met for a great time. You guys were all fantastic! There was not a single person in the entire group I wouldnt gladly hunt with again. Steve

Well, I concur with Rockdoc, Chuck H., and others. The hunt was so much fun and the Host Chuck and Hostess Diane were just the best. I have mentioned more than once the wonderful guns on display, and I'll try to remember some in this post, knowing that I will forget some, so others in attendance might help. We saw--------------Parkers in G, D, and a lovely AHE 20 bore. Some other Parkers for sure. Light guns such as a 5 pound range Francotte 16, a French guild 16, a Greener Monarch Imperial G70 16 bore, and several 410s that others will name. English 12 bore by Hollis Bentley and Playfair [sle] and a fine Scott hammer 12 bore [ca 1869], a Greener 12 bore hammer gun in high condition with self acting strikers , wonderful Wilson double flintlock almost unused from the early 1800s,a Daly Diamond quality 16 with beautiful Bernard type barrels, a Purdey 20 bore best SLE, Lefever 16 bore high condition H with pretty twist barrels weighing just over 6 pounds, Parker repro DHE 20 bore, ----------several others I am forgetting at the moment. Cheers to Chuck Kribs for his work and choosing the "format".

I have some pictures of the guns of LD, Joe Wood, AmarilloMike, Rockdoc and mine that I'll put together. I'll do it asap. This was the best time I've had in recent memory on a hunt and no doubt, a great bunch of gun men and hunters. LD coulda ordered a little warmer weather for us cold sissy Kali-fone-yans though. My Lab didn't seem to mind, but the Ethiopian Pointer seemed a little chilled at -10F when she had to do her biz in the morn.
But, my wife signed me up for cooking for 40 people Saturday night, before I even got home. I got a call about 300 miles from home and was told I needed to make a list of what I needed so she could shop it. I went thru the front door straight to the back and started a fire to put the pork shoulders on. They went till the wee hours before I could get to sleep. I still haven't unloaded except for what Kyle unloaded for me. BBQ is going right now as I type this. Some tri-tips and pork loin need to get done today.
Pics may have to wait till tomorrow. Sorry guys.

Well, Last Dollar is hell on horses and hunters. Sent me up through a damned snow covered jungle 'n I busted my ankle plumb through. Didn't get a lot of sympathy from him either. Oh well, I did drop the first pheasant Monday morning with one shot from the old hammer Parker while everyone else was gitt'in outta their warm trucks. Figure I mights well stay geared up 'n ready. Sure as shootin' a pheasant'll come flying through the house 'n I'll pop him.
