John,

You may be correct. The sidelocks reflect the early serial number. They kept making internal changes over the years. The barrels appear to be slightly thicker than the normal Quail. This would make sense if they intended to engrave the breech and muzzle. The metal to metal fit seems better than the average Quail as well. The barrels have been nicely struck. Not the rough look of some I have seen.

From info I have, there were approximately 120,000 Empire / Quail guns made. Not sure how many were done in 410.

HomelessJoe, the so-called "rook" gun was the model 44. It came in 44XL and perhaps other rifle calibers that had shot cartridges available at the time. The Quail should have all been 2 1/2" chambers. Perhaps at the very end, 1931 they would have made a few in 3".

Pete the reference to 'rook' was intended for the guy that got 'rooked' buying it.

With all this positive feedback on the gun we could purchase it as a "committee". We have at least four possible partners enlisted, but I'm not sure about Researcher.

OK, the engraved gun is not an original engraved Crescent. Gold Bands ? Mushed edges of the engraving ? Even lower grade Crescents had halfway decent checkering. I hope the "committee" reconsiders, but if you want a "custom" Crescent at an acceptable price, go ahead and bid, but not too much. At a high price , these are casket guns.

OK. reserve is met at 1K, let your wallet or C/C limit be your guide, I think I will pass. It is cute though.

What's a 'casket gun'?...a gun you buy and take to the grave with you.

Certainly a interesting gun and the metal work is nice but something about the wood doesn't look right. The finish looks like one of the more modern "plastic" type finishes that Browning uses. I would think the wood would have more of a patina to it. Also the wood metal fit of the receiver is not very crisp, could the stock have been refinished?
