There have been a few posts I found searching for Robert Schrader. I have, in my shop the first actual "Robert Schrader, Gottingen" I've seen in pics or flesh. I'm wondering if anyone has any more recent info on/about the gun. I can and will photograph the barrel and action flats later. I have information that this might have a trigger plate type action and will open it up later. The lever under the guard opens the action, as well as cocks and un-cocks it. 29+" 16 ga. Very light, unusual balance. This is a quote from an earlier post by Raimey, and I'm wondering where you might have come by this info? "Robert Schrader of 8 Prinzenstrasse in Goettingen may have been the culprit for drillings with short rifle tubes down to 50cm. In 1902 under DRP 146285 he addressed the length. He was really big on coil springs and in 1901 under patent 128240 devised a safety lock with a cocking lever under the triggerguard bow. He either improved it or abandoned it. He must have been very successful in order to file the many patents under his name. " Thanks in advance!

Steven: This example was sourced from Suhl as were all others I have seen. Right off the top of my head me thinks I would have gleaned info from the patent, Klup's Drilling page 47, DGJ Volume 9, Issue 1(Spring 1998) at page 151 and I want to think a GGCA publication to have info but I am not certain. I think Dr. Martin Moog to be one of the authorities. If anyone doesn't have the DGJ issue and wants a brief, I may be able to put something together. Also I think it was Krieghoff to have offered example with short tubes.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

Thanks Raimey, I have a drawing/diagram showing a similar mechanism sent to me by Clay in Montana who thought he got it from you, possilbe? I can't find/don't have that DGJ issue... I don't know what Klup's is or what GGCA means? Please don't go to any trouble researching this, at least until I can get it apart and know what's inside. Best, Steve

Norbert Klupps wrote "The Drilling" and I immediately recognized your action from his photos. GGCA is the German Gun Collectors Association. Great find! Steve

I hope I forwarded it to Clayws as if I didn't he's holding out on me. I'm sure I have it some where. Like I said I consider Dr. Moog to be an authority. I'd say that it was made in Suhl by a very talented craftsmen or pool of craftsmen. My 1st thought is centered around the Jäger klan but let's have a gander at the marks.
Kind Regards,

Hi Steven, at least, I can ad two more patents which seem to have something to do with your Schrader. 1/ German patent No. 89537 filed in German patent office on 9. April 1896: 2/ German patent No. 100914 filed in German patent office on 14. February 1898: Question: German patent 128240 also devised a safety lock with a cocking lever under the triggerguard bow, but there coil springs are used. Does your gun have coil springs? Regards Martin

Not to hijack the thread but has anyone seen a selector/safety combo like the following, proofed in Z-M in 1934 I believe. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Ah, hah. I stumbled upon a very similar drilling by the Munitions & Weapons Factory Sömmerda, which was an offshoot of the Dreyse Company and an image of the leaf spring sporting arm can be found on page 22 of GGCA Issue No. 23 of Fall 2004. I suspect that it too was sourced from the very talented Suhl pool of mechanics. I wonder if there was some Dreyse-Schrader collaboration?? I forgot to note that I think it was Heinrich Ehrhardt's firm that acquired the Dreyse or Munitions & Weapons Factory of Sömmerda in 1901 I believe. And by some attachment, it seems that Heinrich Ehrhardt & Meffert were joined at the hip.
Kind Regards,

Another Schrader. Not sure if this is any relation to Robert. The chambers are too thin for me shoot this one. Pete
