It would seem that Robert Schrader gleaned the idea for his drilling from German patent agent W. Stercken(engineer??), who had an idea in the mid 1890s. But Elmore Adelbert Harris of Norwich, Conn. under U.S. of A. patent 394691 may have been the 1st with the overall idea for Robert Schrader's design:

Dr. Moog suggests that Robert Schrader may have sourced E. Schmidt & Habermann.

A German connection (via GGCA) does suggest a colaboration between Dreyse and Schrader and sent me copies of the patent drawings as well. I have the metal off of the wood and it show extraordinary craftsmanship, engineering and beautifully fabricated V springs.
Do note the extreme offset in the left trigger allowing the in-line strikers to be directly behind the sxs barrels. That feature had cause me some prior confusion.

I'll have to save the rest for the column, please watch for it..
Thanks much and Happy Holidays,
Steve
