Pete, your site and posts here are very informative. Between you and Brother Drew, I have learned alot about Damascus barrels.
Keith, the only birds here are turkeys, I don't hunt them. I tried a few years ago with a bow and I personally can't sit still long enough. One reason I don't hunt deer.
The pheasants here and around Allentown was like you said, hunt the alfalfa fields first thing in the morning, hunt the cover during the day and then hunt the alfalfa as the birds were coming back in to roost.
You didn't have to go to another state, there were plenty here.
For me now to get the dog into any birds I have to buy them, the one good thing is that chuckers can be shot all year, no season. But that will probably change also. I don't particularly like them, most don't fly far and they walk around in front of the dog and he won't chase them.
I believe what you are saying about the game commision, back then they would have never let this happen. The game commission blames it on the chicken virus, but I know for a fact the state does not let the young pheasants out when they are 6 weeks old like they used to on property that wasn't posted.
I might start on starlings, to bad they don't hold.
