A bit off topic but there was a great "best of" episode a few years back on PBS' "The Antiques Roadshow". (search for it, you may find it on Youtube, it might have been a montage about forgeries) There was this elderly jackass cowboy know-it-all on the show telling the very credible younger guy that specializes in Wild West and Civil War stuff all about his Colt Dragoon / Patterson / Army / Navy collection.
PBS lets this blowhard amateur collector talk and talk and talk about his guns that he literally knew everything about. He was quoting value, rarity, condition, auction estimates, literally leaving the actual appraiser with nothing to comment upon as this cowboy goes on and on about his amazing collection. He explains how he paid $5000 for this, $10,000 for that and then boasts on how he got great deals on every gun.
At the end, the appraiser final gets to speak then says something that approximates "you sir, have the largest collection of Colt forgeries ever conceived. Every single one of the guns here you showed me today is a reproduction or forgery. The total value of the collection is approximately $500. Thanks for coming to the roadshow."
It was a beautiful TV moment as they cut to commercial as the owner is railing "I disagree", "These are all real, real I tell ya, real!". It was pure bliss for me to watch.
