Can someone explain to me why I can shoot my SBE at sporting clays with a XXX Full (Comp n Choke) turkey choke better than I can with any of the more open factory chokes ?
jOe,
Charlie Boswell (Comp-N-Choke designer and owner) and I are leaving for Arkansas, to duck hunt, early Monday morning. I'll be sure and tell him you said that. He will get a kick out of that, and I'll tell you why. Years ago he and I were going to shoot a round of sporting clays, and Charlie, being the innovative guy that he is, decided to shoot a Mossberg jammamatic with a XXXFull CnC in it, a gun he had never shot before. He shot the highest score he had ever shot on a round of sporting, at that time, a 97! And it really wasn't a soft course either, not tournament targets, but not soft.
Anecdotes aside, over the years I have found that many times a strange gun (if it fits you reasonably well) will shoot you an above average score on the first round. It is a strange phenomenon, and is exactly opposite from what common sense would tell you would happen, but I have seen it, and done it, many times.
Man, I DO love to see what a tight choked 1 1/8 oz. load of 8s does to a well centered clay.
Poof! SRH
