Writers are normally Professors of Puff instead of really knowledgeable of the mechanics of firearms. If you want to learn about doubles, read this site for a few years. Now Macintosh has a great relationship with David Trevallion and with David's knowledge and Mac's writing skills, they make probably the best writing team in all gundom. That shows they are both smart! Any article or book with them together is a treat, eminently readable, and eminently accurate.

A number of writers on guns have over the years latched on to a couple of men in the trade and shamelessly picked their brains . Now I'm not saying that this is true in all cases ,but I have know a couple of instances were a writer has been lead up the garden path. Whether it was that these men grew tired of constant questions or for sheer devilment ,some "tails" have been told. We have all heard of this story that a well jointed gun can be fired ,indeed proofed , the action being held closed with only a piece of string .Another related to the Hardening and tempering of shotgun barrels and another to the source of bone used to get the best colours . In fact one British writer was spun so many untruths , that he gave up writing about guns and shooting ,last I heard he was turning out gory sex and horror paperbacks. Point I'm making here Gents is that not all that is written in books ,no matter how well researched is always 100% accurate . Plus you have the books by Greener [WW] and Churchill who want to promote their guns, I'm sure there were similar in the US. Adverts were not always 100% honest either .

11F, Bbman3, Pete, Gunman, Brian, Roundworth, Eightbore, 2-Piper....

thanks you all, for sure more than one writer mentioned this gun property on different makes, specially since it seems that the main purpose of shotgun bolts was/is barrel-breech alignment.

I think John Moses or somebody in the ad dept at Browning hinged some claim which escapes me on this trick with a Superposed. Now there are some Citoris with wear in which the lock bolt has retracted from the lug on firing but of course the bolt was presumably "shot home" (a comforting idea) immediately before firing. So much for barrel whip and axial rotation; I guess we just hold them closed thru the whole event, what?

Never said it was accurate. Just that it was written!!
At least I didnt make it the truth by saying I saw it on the internet. After all, we all knopw if its on the net it must be true!!
