So, there were gunmaker's guilds which produced a sort of "product for hire" for the trade and put apprentices thru their paces with time-consuming, tour de force journeyman qualification projects (like a cabinetmaker approaching "puffy drawers" one shaving at a time) OR there weren't? Raimey's view and Kensal's appear to be in opposition. What is what? Brum certainly has some earmarks of a guild as does the London system of production. What is a "Worshipful Company of Gunmakers" if not a guild? I would think any organization which certifies the level of training and standard of workmanship of its members would qualify altho the name changes over time.
