Same with my Paton 8ga; true cylinder in both barrels but patterns incredibly well with 2 1/4 oz of (UK) No 1 Bismuth when I am out wildfowling. Has cleanly killed grey geese out to 60 yrds at times which is astounding.

Good news to see 8ga being authorised in some areas in the US; perhaps in years to come it will be extended to your marshes as well.

Are the #1 Bismuth shells generally available in the UK? How much do you have to pay for them?

Phil-

Congratulations, and nice work.

I hope you draw a permit and get to use that bad boy.

Kaboom!

These are homeloaded Brass case cartridges (I had 20 made for the gun and they are superb). Loose Bismuth here in the UK is around 120 - or $180 - for 6.6lbs. I recently paid virtually the same for 6.6lbs of Niceshot which I intend to load in the brass later this year.

You can purchase Bismuth loaded cartridges for an 8ga here in the UK but only via a specialist - Alan Myers; cost is 5 per shot - so around $8 a pop. Not for the fainthearted.

By my calculations, your Bismuth is costing you about four dollars a shell. I guess it is worth loading them to shoot for half price. Luckily, I have a good supply of Eley and Gamebore factory loaded Bismuth eights. Unfortunately, they are still illegal for all US game that requires no tox. That is what is known as a "Catch 22".
