Ran into a deal I couldn't turn down on a Beretta silver pigeon. The second O/U I've ever owned, the first being a BL 3 back about 30 years ago.
It just doesn't feel right after all those SxS. Heavier than it should be, but handy with 26" barrels. Now to take it out and shoot it.

Nothing wrong with a Silver Pigeon with 26" barrels if you didn't pay much for it. They are a great gun. I bought my Beretta 682 30" 20 gauge in the mid eighties before there was such a gun in the country, except mine. I am still enjoying it, what, about 26 years later.

I regret to this day getting rid of my S57E with two sets of barrels that I got in 1971. It was basically the precursor of your Silver Pigeon and I shot it very well.

I shot my first game birds ever with an o/u this season.
Turned up not expecting to shoot and had a Browning stuck in my hand and pointed to a peg. Killed four pheasants for four shots. Felt dirty.
Next week went out with a friend who gave me a few shots on his peg with a 20-bore Silver Pigeon EELL. Killed some good birds. My friend danced around the peg chanting "Dig likes over & unders". Felt Dirty. No cameras present fotunately. It won't happen again! Now I take a gun even if I'm not shooting.

Dig, relax, the birds will never know and we won't tell, :-)

I recently traded my Arrieta 20 Gauge for a B. Rizzini two gauge set, 20/28 (plus $1000 coming to me) and did some fo the best shooting I've done in years with the O/U. While it lacks the tradition, panache and that certain something that the Arrieta possessed the B. Rizzini handles exceptionally well and carries well too.

Nothing outperforms shooting well, whatever you use! Enjoy.

S/S are very much the exception nowadays in the UK, especially when shooting clays. When asked why I persist in using a S/S when I have a few O/U's and semi-auto's in my gun room (hang-over from my days as a shooting coach), I reply that 'I prefer to miss in style'. As Dig says, shooting an O/U is just too easy! Makes one feel like one is cheating. If I had to shoot to eat, there would be no contest. Thankfully the local butcher, baker and (unfortunately) supermarket still supply most of my needs!

I have shot doves for 51 years with many different guns. My 20 ga. Silver Pigeon II Sporting is the sweetest dove gun I have ever used. How I love taking those high incomers with it! It is so much fun to be first man on the field to limit out and go the the shade and the cool refreshments, when you're the only gun on the field not shooting 1 1/8 oz. loads. I only use 7/8 oz. for doves and quail.
I still shoot my S x Ss a lot, but switching back and forth from them to the SP II has never been a problem for me.

If I had to shoot for my lunch I'd still take my old Thompson!
