My little 4 3/4 pound 28 gauge Francotte was uncomfortable to shoot with standard 3/4 ounce loads, so I put my "heavy half ounce" shot bushing in the PW and filled the shells with a 410 card wad. I didn't change the powder charge, so the pressure is still acceptable and the velocity is probably a little higher, but the loads are great shooters and the recoil is much less. I am also a Krieghoff shooter, so the little gun takes some getting used to. The solution is to shoot the little guns a lot.

Buzz, a very good example of guns for purposes. I'd guess that the K-80 would be well out of its element in the grouse/woodcock woods. It is not at all uncommon for people to shoot off-purpose guns just because they enjoy shooting said guns and are perfectly willing to accept whatever scores they achieve. I think we need to sort shooting into sessions where score matters more and where the joy of shooting matters more. For most, the gun they shoot best is not the one they enjoy shooting most.

Using objective handling measurements allows us to more easily see and understand the whys of gun handling. Also, we have a measure of how much of each factor a given gun has.

Joe's gun will be interesting both from the data point and from Joe's shooting point. Is there a low MOI boundary to Joe's ability? We will know soon.

The sky parted enough for me to head to the skeet range. It is a keeper! While I didn't get them all, it was great fun, no recoil and capable of smashing targets when I paid attention.
I took my 5 1/4 Coggie 20 BLE with me. I wanted to fire my latest batch of 2 1/2" loads. Compared to the 4 lb .410, my 20 felt really big.
It moves fast. My only issue was keeping my head on the stock. Practice will fix that. It's time to knock the dust off the .410 reloader. I think I am going to be shooting a bunch of .410 for quite awhile.

You know, I've been shooting with Joe for as long as I've been shooting - better than 40 years - and I don't really believe there's anything he can't shoot - at least with less than 2" of drop at the comb. Figured he'd shoot it well.

It might work out quite well . . . for an Olympic weightlifter or NFL lineman. MOI aside, the problem with a K-80 in the grouse woods is that the vast majority of hunters can't tote that much iron through that kind of cover.

Cant or Wont?

Joe, congratulations on your find. I have an Osborn .410 with Damascus barrels marked not for ball picked up at the Vintagers about four years ago. Light, lithe and fun with STS loads as recommended by the Brits. I don't shoot it alot though.
