It seems to me that "restoring" a gun would be replicating the original? Anything else would be an upgrade..Plain wood=plain wood etc..I have spent tons of money doing things to guns to make them what I wanted them to be..I wouldnt call any of that "restoration"

There is a term in hot rods - "Resto-Mod". Similar to what Chuck did with that A grade Fox. And I like Chuck's A grade.

I was just wondering now that we are coming up with firm criteria for "restoration": is a little lift and padding a restoration or custom?

The lift could well be restoration. The padding is most likely custom but, if tastefully done, it could fool the experts.

Sometimes the best restoration is to get rid of the old worn one and get a new one that doesn't need restoration. And I need one that can keep up with me. Ya'll remember my maxim don't you?
