Before you spend money you need to find as nice a gun as you can and buy the best that you can afford, not the cheapest one you can find and hope to fix it up later. Set a spending limit and look for a gun in thar range. Looking is half the fun and you will see more than one good looking gun with issues. Choose which ones you want to take on and pass on the rest. Some of the best buys are not the ones that you should fall for. Fixer upers are a trap that can become a real money pit before you know what happens.
The evaluation order for me is barrels, metal condition, wood condition, fit and then finish. If any one of the top of the list is rough or bad the guns gets very little interest. I do not expect one of these guns to fit me as I like rather high stocks and most Lefevers are rather low. But metal problems or barrels issues are real deal killers as they cost major money to correct. Wood and finish of wood is easier for me to correct myself.
