My feeling is it depends on what you plan to do with it. If I was going to a fight and my life depended on it, the 21 would be with me. If I was looking for a refined, high quality lover it would be a Purdey:)

The gun market is quite fickle. There are hard core collector guns in the same price range as "serious shooters". I am not talking about just Model 21s. I own both and am looking to buy and sell more in both categories. I wish I could resist buying in the shooter category, but I just can't seem to do it. The Model 21 is right in the middle of the two categories. Those who blow the gun off have not owned or shot one. The UK critics have probably never seen one.

And the Winchester Model 24s don't go for that money either. So it is not just the cartouche.

Yeh, it isn't just the name. Where I am you can't give away a model 24.

The Model 21 has modern dimensions, is capable of digesting modern ammunition, and is incredibly strong. The same thing could be said for a 311, yet I don't see anyone going gaga over them No, the same thing being said about being incredibly strong would not be true. The 311 is junk compared to a 21.

I have shot one and I still blow them off. They are not my thing and not worth the coin they command. They are not bad guns, but just to bulky for me. If I was into duck hunting or clays then maybe they would be good, but for uplands no thanks. There are far better upland guns out there IMO for that price or less.

Never owned one but have shot a few of them and looked over/handled many more.Some of them were a bit heavy but the 20's were very nice in all respects and the heavy ones were duck guns so you wouldn't be carrying them around anyway.Local guy had an engraved duck gun with a straight stock that he actually shot loose and wore all the finish off the gun,bluing and stock finish.I would not want to guess how many times that gun had been shot.He owned a farm bordering a river and planted it to attract ducks and hunted them spring and fall. Got an award for his conservation practices and was arrested for shooting out of season.He said he felt justified in that he was giving them a home in the first place.
