With the stock removed, it shouldn't be hard to see what resets the safety. Most doubles have a simple rod or extension that is pushed back by part of the lever or the locking bolt. My usual way would be to cut off as much as needed so the safety will not be moved as the gun is opened. Save the piece and it could be silver soldered on later, if desired. Another nice advantage you'll gain by removing this abomination is that you'll be able to let the hammers down by holding both triggers back as you close the gun when finished shooting for the day.
