This rifle sold last night on Auction Arms. I wondered if anything stood out on it that might point to a maker?

Not the buyer, a onlooker cheering for another bidder. Maybe the buyer will come along with more info.

Wow. Guessing it's gonna be difficult to mask the identity of the stock maker. Somebody got a bargain....

Nice rifle. Looks very generic to me, but I guess that shows how much (or little) I know?

Well.....I have more pictures of that style grip, comb nose, checkering pattern, cheek piece, and even butt plate, than any other pre-war maker. All save one on 1903 Springfields.
The other is also on a Krag.

It looks like the auction was viewed over 800 times and only one person recognized the work. Maybe in a week or two the rifle will show up on a dealers list at two or three times what he paid. And now that we are all aware that could make someone very happy. Let the games begin .

With an 1894 receiver manufacture date, it should have been an antique, with no FFL or C & R required. I am not very familiar with Krags, does the 1894 actually refer to manufacture date?

Krags area confusing bunch to me too. I think it's actually a Model 1892 Krag with a 1894 dated receiver. Most '92s are dated 1894 for some reason.
I'd guess it was an Antique too, but there always remains the discussion of wether alterations to an original Antique pre-1899 firearm removes it from the no paperwork (in most locations) status. Many FFL's opt for a license copy before the altered gun gets shipped. Their gun,,their call.
I gotta start watching those auctions again..
