Best oak leaves I have seen, many subtle nuances. Like the depth! This kind of work should be standard on all M21's--and paid for out of Congress' retirement!

I normally don't really care for much engraving. However, this is exquisite with all the subtle detail, etc. I can see this on a much used hunting gun many years down the road and even more extraordinary with age.

Weldon,

Welcome to this forum, it's good to see you posting your work here. You do some of the best Eichenlaub this side of Suhl!

For those not familiar with Weldon, he is a second generation engraver who is one of the top practicing engraving artists in the USA today. There is a chapter devoted to him in my most recent book.

When you are an American engraver you are usually asked to work on American guns. Most all British and European guns worth engraving are already engraved by the time they arrive on our shores. Superposeds, Perazzis, and Krieghoffs are something of an exception because of the number of plain models imported that target shooters like to get embellished.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks to all!
Mike..no offense taken...I think the 21 was a suitable canvas for that project .....but the bottom line is this: in this case it was the clients gun & he got what he wanted!

I was just reading your chapter in Roger's book. Steel inlay is mentioned as a vehicle for higher relief oak leaves. Are any of the leaves on the Model 21 in steel inlay? The Model 21 in the book is very nice also.

Thanks Eightbore!

This 21 has no added steel, it is all cut from the gun. There's a lot of work there shaping the leaves, modeling & sculpting. The effect is very dimensional without adding anything.
Working on one now where I'll be adding a little.
