Hello gentlemen:

I have the opportunity to buy a Sauer mod 60, 12 ga, boxlock s x s shotgun. It is in good general shape, but have a lot of play between barrels and frame (off face).
My question is, from your experience, how difficult could be to turn 180 degrees the hinge pin to tight again the shotgun?
I mean, an amateur gunsmith but with some ability (myself) could do the fix?

I hope you can answer me with your advise.

Best,

Is it a knock in or a screw pin? If you are going to the trouble to take it out then why not make a new one?

I don't think it'll solve the problem. Most of the wear will likely be in the barrel hook.

Yes, a small piece of "scoth tape" (Diurex) on the barrel ("enganche" in spanish, sorry I do not remember the name in english)tight everything wonderfully, but I am looking for a more durable fix.
I always think that the problem when a shotgun is off face is the hinge pin, but for your comments I must be wrong.

You are not wrong, just slightly right. The hing pin is normally harder than the barrel, thus more wear on the barrel. The hing pin also recieves wear but it is hard to get at and tough to repair. So take the easy way out and repair the easy access , high wear barrel. Find the right thickness shim and fix it to the barrel or weld it up and remachine it.

Bill:

Thank you. I understood.
Now how to permanently attach the correct shim to the barrel?
I think that to weld a thin piece of steel to the barrel hook (enganche) is not easy. Glued with cyanoacrilate (instant glue)?
Remember I will do the repair. I want the easiest but durable (and correct) fix.

El vive in Miami, Fl.

Run with the fox:

I really appreciate your efforts to write me in spanish, but a lot of what you write (for sure an internet transaltion) does not mean anything coherent.
You can write me in english; I will understand you quite well!
"Between lines" I understand that is better to weld the barrel hook, but I do not understand with what procedure (plasma?)
I fear to weld any part in a firearm because normally the generated heat soften the steel.

The best short term fix is to cut a shim out of a beer can.
First take a full can of beer and empty it smile
Then take scissors and cut the shim too small.
Then take another full can of beer and empty it smile
Well you understand what to do from here
Keep cutting the shims too small, right??
Mike
