Hello all,
Im a newbie here and just purchased a very nice and ornate double hammer underlever cape gun, shotgun barrel is damascus rifle barrel is not. Very nicely engraved, slivered metal reciever and maker name inlaid on top of barrels in silver

F. Ansope or Ansupe,,,silver is missing in areas

Landau

neither barrel is marked as to caliber/gauge only crown V proofs

Any info out there on the gunmaker?

Sure the name isn't Ansorg? Any F. Ansope was a firearms merchant or country gunsmith that retailed the combo. More than likely it was made in Suhl or Zella Sankt Blasii or Mehlis. The sporting weapon was onhand in a gunmaker's shop between January & April 1893. A chamber cast will drive back the calibre demons but images will also aide in providing any pertinent info. If you do indeed have images, forward them to me & I'll gladly post them or you desire not to do so.

Kind Regards,

I think I've seen a listing for Ferdinand Ansorg büchsenmacher of Landau in der Pfalz.

Axel may have info and possibly his phone number.

The sporting weapon more than likely was sourced from the Zella Sankt Blasii area with the Schilling forge mark on the fluid steel tube.

It is a Lefaucheux type action with an early breechloader type trigger-guard bow. I would say that F. Ansorg sourced his cousins in the Suhl, Zella Sankt Blasii and Mehlis area where there were and still are very capable mechanics. It appears there is a tube knitter's mark just forward of the left flat. There may be another mark on the standing breech or if you every remove the locks, additional marks may be found there.

Difficult to wade thru the old German typeset but Büchsenmacher Ferdinand Ansorg may have had Prince Ludwig Ferdinand as a client.

The 1908 listing gives master gunsmith Ferdinand Ansorg was somehow connected to 18 Infanterie - Regiments of Prinz(Prince) Ludwig and 22 Infanterie Regiments of Nikolaus Franz, maybe also a Prinz? Who these cats are, I can't say.

Some info from a post by Axel E. on the Ansorgs:

"There are no less than 34 Ansorgs active in the guntrade listed so far, most of them in Zella-Mehlis. But there are only two J.s: Julius Ansorg, Zella Mehlis, documented 1888.
J. Ansorg, Wuerzburg, Bavaria, about 1900."

A Daniel Majetic

which had a similar listing connecting him to Infantry Regiment #18 of the Archduke Lepold Ferdinand Salvator?
