I just purchased an English gun with one of these horrid orange recoil pads. The LOP is perfect with this pad but when I look at it I get a stomach ache. I can't decide what to do. The pad is about an inch thick. Maybe an ebony extension, walnut extension or leather pad? Any suggestions? This hideous orange pad has got to go!!

I like the look of the silvers myself and it is the only pad that looks right on a British gun, other than a nice leather covered pad.

Since the 1880s,some of the greatest guns and double rifles in the world use the classic Silver's pad. Purdey, Boss, Westley, even A.H. Fox specified the Silver's pad for their XE grade. IMHO, a gun with an "ebony extension" would be in the "hideous" catagory. Silver's and others make brick red and black pads-just change it or have it leather covered but the orignal Silvers in orange is my first choice in pads...I am sorry the one on my Purdey pigeon gun was covered by some wanker in goatskin...

About nine out of ten leather covered pads are unacceptable, at least to me. I have one that is a masterpiece, but the craftsman gave up the trade.

Silvers pads are the only pads that are aesthetically correct. If you hate it, have it covered in English pigskin for $350.

Leather covered pad, dyed to match the color of the stock, are most attractive. They are out of place on an Ithaca field grade but should like right on a nice English gun.

hello buzz,
obviously all tastes vary but my vote is for a well fitted and shaped orange silvers.my pet hate is wooden extension.
all pads/ extensions that appear too big do spoil the look somewhat.
