I'm constantly amazed that tacky orange pad goes on some of the world's finest guns, but you see it.
I personally think it's as bad as a wood or horn extensions. A horn plate can be a real thing of beauty, but I cringe when I see a big chunk stuck on the end of the stock.
I think your best option is to have a leather pad installed. Or, I have seen some Silver's that look to be colored or died or something - they have been really darkened. If your fit is perfect, maybe you could explore that - it's still a chunk of rubber at the end of a fine piece of walnut, but at least it's doesn't stick out like a safety cone.
