Since the 1880s,some of the greatest guns and double rifles in the world use the classic Silver's pad. Purdey, Boss, Westley, even A.H. Fox specified the Silver's pad for their XE grade. IMHO, a gun with an "ebony extension" would be in the "hideous" catagory. Silver's and others make brick red and black pads-just change it or have it leather covered but the orignal Silvers in orange is my first choice in pads...I am sorry the one on my Purdey pigeon gun was covered by some wanker in goatskin...
Aye- and with today bein' the "Eve O'St. Patty'd Day" orange, to a Green Mick with Belfast-ian roots, that colour might have been the Limey's choice in thumbin' their aristocratic noses a at us poor bog trotters- I like the dark muted red of the June 1922 Pat'd Winchester pads, althoug two of my older Smith 12 bores have the Hawkins--And a wanker in goatskin-- sort of a Limey's version of a man who buys a seer-sucker suit from Coxes Dept. store, or vice-versa, ey wot, Gov??
