Some of them don't look too bad. I bought a nice little 20 bore sidelock with a well figured stock that was a fraction too short for me. Wood extension wouldn't match and the stock wood was quite light so a dark ebonite one would have looked out of place too. Luckily my Gunsmith is a hoarder of old and potentially useful stuff and he founs an older Silvers pad that had come off a restocked gun. It has just the right patina to be right with the 20 bore and was exactly the right size as well. Although I prefer to see a stock with full length wood this actually does look quite correct.
