Mike Larson, those are absolutely gorgeous photos! Oldfarmer, you have some very nice ones as well. I always enjoy a well done photo of a vintage gun.

This is a Pieper Diana. It has fluid steel chambers and damascus barrels. These were also sold under the house name of Golden Hibbard.

This is a Bayard (aka Pieper) from 1947. This one is 28ga.

This is a Husqvarna M51.

Beretta made some hammer guns. Many have been used hard and need a good inspection before you lay out cash.

Sears, Meriden Firearms produced hammer guns. Some have Krupp barrels.

Can you help me understand this? Steel inside but Damascus outside? Clearly you can see a line on the barrels. I thought for a second they were sleeved.

They built it using a monobloc for the chambers, then welded on Damascus tubes?

Striking, nonetheless....

Thank you. I'm going to load some low pressure brass shells for it also to complete the vintage experience.

The monobloc is fluid steel. The barrels are damascus. The barrels can be sweated or screwed into the monbloc, depends on the maker. Beretta still uses the monobloc.

Is the damascus done purely for aesthetics then? I mean, why not make the whole deal out of steel or out of damascus? Why the mix?

Pieper used damascus because it was cheaper for him in the 1880's. Also, damascus has a beauty of it's own. Others used fluid steel barrels.

Any how, I am just trying to show you even more options for your search. I have hammer guns in most gauges. They are fun to use. They do require different gun handling to keep things safe. It is very common, for instance to cock both hammers when a bird rises. Hit the bird and you must remember to lower the second hammer. When decocking a hammer, always point the gun in a safe direction.

Enjoy the search. I will be curious to see what you finally choose. There are a lot of choices, both modern and vintage. Some are very utilitarian, others are works of art.

You could even go to a drilling... grin

Ahhhh yes! Hammer guns (and hammer rifles). We don't just want them, we do need them.

Top to bottom:

Please forgive the latter two as distractions from this thread.
