On the I-5 north out of Los Angeles about 50 miles, there's a mountain pass that tops at 4200 ft. Everytime we get snow on that road, it closes. Yet there is an army of snow clearing equipment. This is a piece of 'Super-Slab' freeway that has probably 4-5 lanes in each direction at the summit.

A little snow and the cars start sliding all over and there's almost always a pileup. Nobody slows down one bit and dimwits think they can go 80 mph on the snow and ice. They can. Just not in the direction they want to. Sn, as soon as they can shut it down, they do. Sometimes they'll run escorted batches thru at controlled speeds, because left to their own, the knuckleheads would kill themselves.
