Chuck,
I'm familiar with that pass. A couple friends and I took a year off from college in 1975, worked into the fall and then took off to Mexico in Nov. Our 1st stop over was in Portland to visit a friend then on to San Francisco to visit the sister of one of my travel mates for Thanksgiving.
We were driving a Ford Courier and hit that pass a few days after Thanksgiving. There was probably about an inch, perhaps two inches of snow. We had almost clear sailing over the pass, because most of the cars had either slid off the road or were pulled over putting on chains. We appreciated the lack of vehicles on the road, but thought it a bit amazing that most all drivers were having such a hard time with that little amount of snow. It was a bit comical to us.
I've been over that pass a few times since, as recently as last Sept, but have never been over it in winter since 1975.
