Well, as a newbie I am still lookingfor my first SxS. I went to the father in laws this weekend, and he proceeded to tell me he had bought all of his brother's guns from him the previous week. He started listing what he had bought..and he says "an old Lc Smith 12 gauge". My ears perk up, and I ask to see it. We go up to his gun room/bedroom, which is half dark, and he pulls out an LC Smith double barrel hammer gun. Its missing the forend. I broke it open, it sort of fell apart, and I got it back together. I want to say it had a metal butt plate. I noticed either Fulton Arms or Hunter Arms stamped on the barrels, the memory is sort of a blur. Noticed some really rough welding on the underneath of the barrels..not sure if it was a repair or? LC Smith was engraved on the side...it was so rough it was a bit discouraging..oh well..the hunt continues.

Bummer. Keep your eyes and ears open and your nose to the grindstone---they are out there and sooner or later one is bound to pop up---and then jump on it like a cat.

Jamie,

There are some really good buys now on low to mid grade guns. Go to Gunbroker and Gnus America and watch for a while. Focus on what you think you'd like such as American vintage SxS's liek AH Fox and LC Smith. After a few weeks you will see a few guns sell but most won't. Go back and study the ones that sold and the selling price. For an exact match to that gun (which is impossible...) the selling price is should be what the market value is. There is always the exception so try ot get price points on 3 similar guns.

If you have questions as to why one sold for $xx and another for $xy then post the links to the autions here and ask questions. Answers you will receive.
