WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO GET THEM BUILT TODAY???
Is that the same Crown at about $9000 that he has but does NOT have the LONGRANGE stamp on the bottom of the barrel lug- Anyone can offer for sale a 3" chambered 12 gauge LC Smith (my older 2E with the later factory installed 32" Nitro Steel barrels and ventilated rib (about 1927) has 3" chambers and also the reinforcing yoke behind the barrel loop, but is NOT a LONGRANGE-- I am always leary of dealers whose descriptions run into the Encyclopedia Britianica-- what is he 'hiding" behind all that flowery description and "Vintage Razzle-Dazzle- but then, I am a Fox, and we are inherently suspicious by nature--

Same gun. The Factory Letter states it is a long range gun.

And no 'dealer" ever 'counterfeited' a so-called Factory Letter? I know of three cases involving high grade Parker and Fox guns where dealers (whom will remain un-named here- now and forever) had forged copies from the original Factory letters- one even with a Hang Tag-- If it is NOT stamped by the factory as LONGRANGE- IT AIN'T-- Look at all the 'counterfeited Model 12 in 28 gauges- or the std. grade M70's dropped into a SG stock and with a "switched" floorplate- Caveat Emperor- Big Time-- hell of a lotta dinero for a "possible" Longrange- IMO anyway!!!

My oh my what we find when we look back. Run With the Fox...instead of throwing around suspicions and insults about fake factory letters, why don't you just contact Cody Firearms Museum and ask for a email of info on the Crown? You would then see for yourself how wrong you are about the gun having to be stamped "LONG RANGE" lug, and maybe think twice before sullying a guy's name with no cause. That is just wrong.

Just because a gun was delivered three months after order doesn't mean it was fully produced in said time. They probably had a stock of actions, barrels, etc...

Curious that someone would resurrect a 5 year old thread just to take a shot at RWTF. And is he still around and doing ok? Haven't seen him posting in awhile.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He hasn't posted for awhile and I'm wondering about his health.

Because the person who resurrected the thread was the person selling the gun in the OP. And so was, obliquely, the target of RWTF's insinuations.

I'd probably respond, even five years later, if someone unfairly and with no evidence, called my ethics into question.

When making a gun based on a standard design in a factory production , the parts are being machined and passed onto the benches for build up . As a result there will be a stock of barreled actions of differing bores and barrel lengths .
When an order for a non standard gun ,ie specific stock measurements or engraving is made this can be put into the production line as soon as it has been received . Thus a "special order " can be delivered rapidly , assuming the maker dose not have a long pre order waiting time , which at the time of this gun would be unlikely.
Any one making a gun today or should I say commissioning a gun today using outworkers will take far,far longer than a factory that did all work "in house".
I would think that a Webley 700 , for instance, could have been built from machined parts to delivery in 10/15 working days [ had it had been attempted ] but needing the attention of 18/20 individuals and a well equipped factory for its making .
