Don't have picture's yet,but a friend has a Mauser 98 sporter 8x57 marked Germania Waffenwerk A.G. Zella Mellis.Under the barrel there's an eagle with an "N" stamped underneath and another with a "J"stamp. There's also an upsidedown heart with a pine tree coming out of it.Anyone heard of such a rifle?

Really like to see some images. Proofs sound post 1939 and with the stamp of the Heart with the tree, that would be Zella-Mehlis post 1939. Should be a proof date. Germania Waffenwerk AG was that of Johann Gottfried Anschütz, who hung out his shingle in 1856. Richard and Frau Alma Anschütz were at the helm by 1930. There should be the stamp of an encircled JGA on it somewhere. Venuswaffenwerk formally known as Oskar Will owned by Wilhelm Foss was also in the neighbourhood.

Kind Regards,

Francis:
With all that cryptic Cyrillic you throw on the screen, it may be the pot calling the kettle black. Or you may rather revert to your Latin word origins rather than French. Then again you may be a descendant of Brother Webster who set the stage for American English.

Right back attcha--French, Spanish, Italian are all Romance or Latin based languages- the one thing they all have in common is the gender factor. Latin I know from Catholic Schools in the 1950's when the Church still used it, and some of its structure helped with my HS Spanish. I am no descendant of Daniel Webster or any of the other "Damn Yankee stage-hands who structured the King's English- that's damn near an insult, I am a slight limb of the family tree of Francis Marion- the Southern "Swamp Fox" who be-deviled the Limeys during the Rev. War-distant but still wise enough to know his tactics sure pissed off old Lord Cornhollis!!

Francis, now tell us what you really think. How do you refer to a Southerner who moves North of the Mason-Dixon line of demarcation and stays?
