Looking for experience on removing those pesky European sling swivels from a shotgun. The one on the butt stock is straight forward enough (cover with a plate or a wood plug) the screw holes on the barrels is the question, what is the best way to deal with those?

From the Online Etymology Dictionary http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?allowed_in_frame=0&search=Pesky&searchmode=nonepesky 1775, originally in New England dialect, perhaps a dial. formation from pest (cf. plaguy "confounded, annoying, disagreeable"). Partridge suggests an origin in Essex dialect.

Use blued slot 'blanking' screws, much as one does on rifles, e.g., like on the side of a Marlin lever where it is drilled & tapped for a receiver sight. Your screws are probably metric threads & could be hard to duplicate or match, but the blanking screws could easily be fabricated from the ones that presently hold on the front sling mount and re-colouerd/blued to closely match the bbl. finish.

I like tw's suggestion, and hang on to pesky swivels a later owner may very well want them.

You can fill the holes in the stock with matching paste wood filler. Several applications might be needed for the deep screw hole. If you match it properly it's virtually not noticeable.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting metric blued filler screws.

I know what "pesky" means. I don't know why anyone would think sling swivels are "pesky", especially on a European gun.

Better yet, get a sling and try it. If you ever hunt with a dog, hike across open barrel fields, or ever have a need for using both hands at the same time you may want to add swivels to all of your guns. Sure beats laying your gun in the dirt or looking for a tree to lean against.
