A friend yesterday showed me a grandfather's Savage Model 99 in .303 calibre. It was in very good condition, original everything, little wear, and case-colouring on lever unblemished. It could be taken apart in three pieces. It also had a leather hard case. Is a three-piece rare? Rough value? He doesn't plan on selling it. Thanks.

May I suggest you post this over on the 24 hour campfire forum under the Savage collectors and they will probably have alot of feedback for you. To your questions about rarity: 303- no 3 piece take down- no leather hard case- could be and lots of depends here. condition- not rare but a big plus
The campfire boys will ask for pics so you may want to take them and post. If you can't postpics, then PM me and I can do for you.
There are a number of the members on the 24 who live in your fair country.

+1 on the Campfire Savage forum. 99 fanatics! And some .303 fanatics. And some Canadian fanatics, too.

Thanks for your assistance. It was a surprise to me that my flying buddy had a rack of Model 99s. He hunted but I was overwhelmed when he started taking them off his rack. Another gift from his grandfather was a good-shape Sterly 20 ga which he had never fired.
