If the receiver is some type of alloyed metal it will be a problem that likely can not be overcome. I will catch you at the club next week and look at it. The bbls are not going to be a problem. Be dressing doen the barrels in the meantime, If it needs file work, if not start with 220 Wet or dry paper and work down to 400.

Is it a candidate for some of 'coating'?
AKA paint I guess... KBI?

I would check where the joint is between the bbl tubes & the block prior to doing a lot of filing on it. It may just be put together somewhat like Pieper's original patent. If so the bbls may not step down inside the block but have a slight taper & insert in the block from the rear. If you filed the block down to a feather edge the block could lose its integrity.

From the pix, it looks more like aluminum than stainless to me.
If it's aluminum, the choices are something like Robar coating (baked on paint) or anodize. Anodize doesn't work well on cast aluminum alloys, which many of these cheaper gun were made from. If it's aluminum, I'd go full ghetto on it and polish it after sculpting it. Aluminum will file very easily. Use a nice gun like a high grade Fox or Parker for the basis of your sculpting.

From the pix, it looks more like aluminum than stainless to me. Hi Chuck, It appears to be stainless, I scratched the inside of the frame with a very sharp SS kitchen knife and it barely scratched the surface. It just has that semi-dull brushed finish that's so popular on aluminum. Even if I could hot blue it, I dislike hot-blued frames nearly as much as what I already have. It's just not worth it to me. BTW, I resculpted the forend, before it grabbed you by the throat and shouted "I'm a machine made BEAVERTAIL forend, and damn proud of it!" Hopefully that look is gone, it's still a beavertail, just not so beefy. Original BEAVERTAIL forend After resculpting, I’ve only put on one coat of linseed oil so far Steve Steve

It would fit right in at most gun shows... Strangely enough Steve that's where I purchased this tragic example of the gunmakers craft. You must be psychic! Steve

At the risk of pissing-off the people who own Stevens 311's in .410 gauge, I think it looks better than one of them, right from the git-go. Um, sorry; no.

Almost as beautiful as a prairie sunrise! Good luck on your quest! It looks like a fun project. Watch out though as it will lead you to a closet full of sow ears you think you can bring back from the dead. I know!
