I suppose there is nothing wrong with being optimistic asking for a price which is, in my opinion about double what it's worth, what with it being sleeved and all. I am not sure the Mackintosh "providence" is worth the other $6000.00 either.

Here's an interesting comparison that has been "restored to new": http://ospreyarms.com/category_details.php?i=4&id=255The MM/DT provenance is nice, but not worth much $$. OWD

I very nearly bought an island lock hammer Holland & Holland that had been sleeved. I hesitated and missed it, but a member here gave me a very hard time because the gun was sleeved. I would have shot the gun and enjoyed it, especially at the right price. The hard time had nothing to do with me missing the opportunity, but I was surprised by how emphatic he was that I not buy a sleeved gun. To me it was just a practical way to extend the field shooting life of a good, old gun and the sleeve job was fairly reflected in the asking price.

As an aside, it's amazing how similar that Purdey looks to a model 50 or 51 Husqvarna. I wonder who copied whom.

The name "Purdey" alone sets it apart from any other maker IMHO and it being Michael's gun ads a great deal as well. Consider Nash Buckingham's Super Fox at 200K+ or the Parker intended fo Czar Nichalos. Teddy Roosevelt's Fox also went at something of a premium.

I have an update. I do not know the selling price but the Field Sport guys said that this gun did sell in the original September auction in the last minutes. Must have been more than $12k.
