The kind of broad sweeping statements that were made about modern punt gunning were moronic and completely knee jerk reactions, I was calling a spade a spade. That same kind of reaction is what will get first lead shot, then hunting, and finally guns banned in the US.
The "I don't agree with it so it must be wrong, I don't care about the facts" mentality is how steel shot for waterfowl and many other useless hunting and gun related laws came into effect.
In the UK, pretty much everything that's outlawed here (other than live decoys) is still perfectly legal. They've managed to maintain a strong duck and goose population without all the oddball gauge restrictions and other weird laws we have.
I've been there, I've hunted there, I have tons of friends there. This is not something I read on the internet or heard around the stove at the feed store, this is first hand information.
Punt gunning, as it survives today is a sport, and a very interesting one. If a person took time to look past the end of their nose and had any interest in the actual history of waterfowling they'd find it as fascinating as I do.
D
yet another blast of non sequitur.
The simple, unadorned fact is that punt gunning is shooting sleeping birds on the water.
ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY SPORTSMAN!!!
