What really needs to be outlawed is not punt gunning, but Roboducks and other mechanized decoys.

In the UK, pretty much everything that's outlawed here (other than live decoys) is still perfectly legal. They've managed to maintain a strong duck and goose population without all the oddball gauge restrictions and other weird laws we have.

I've been there, I've hunted there, I have tons of friends there. This is not something I read on the internet or heard around the stove at the feed store, this is first hand information.

Punt gunning, as it survives today is a sport, and a very interesting one. If a person took time to look past the end of their nose and had any interest in the actual history of waterfowling they'd find it as fascinating as I do.

D

yet another blast of non sequitur.

The simple, unadorned fact is that punt gunning is shooting sleeping birds on the water.

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY SPORTSMAN!!!

Sort of the Joe Stalin of waterfowling

I have no dog in this fight, but I doubt very much that Punt Gunning was ever a "Sport" in this country..It was all about money..FYI I didnt read much of this thread...

I was waiting for somebody else to bring up the turkey thing. I'll wait patiently on Joe's response explaining how it's ok when he shoots a bird that's not on the wing.

P.S. to Dollar: Punt gunning was a sport in this country to a point. A lot of the big duck clubs on the St. Clair Flats and Lake St. Clair had punt guns and boats for the members to use. I've seen several in a friends collection that came out of this area.

P.S. to Wonko: In the UK, punt gunning is done during daylight hours only. The birds aren't sleeping.

I grew up in Grosse Pointe, we kept our boats at the Grosse Point yacht club, on Lake St. Claire. I have seen the punt guns in the area..The "Sport" part came from bragging about how many.....

"Bragging about how many"

How have things changed much?

We all talk about our success during the season.
