No open season on chickens in WI, although there's at least one state area that has them. Some possibilities for working dogs on chickens. There is a sharptail season, but they don't get a lot of attention or pressure. If you're talking about ruffed grouse, there are public lands all over the northern third or so of the state. National and state forests, and some individual counties also have in the neighborhood of 100,000 acres of county forest. No problem finding places to hunt ruffs and woodcock here.
