Thre is huge discussian at several call making boards about Custom Made and its meaning.
Some callmakers think it's allways complitely hand made call made from stratch, some think it's call made by customer specifications and wishes.
What d'you think?

I remember CalCustom rims, steering wheels, gas pedals, etc.. All had one thing in common, they were chrome plated. Maybe it means chrome plated?

Steve Hughes (SDH-MT here) has the best written description of "custom" that I have read. It was in the one and only issue of The Custom Rifle Gazette back in '95. Hopefully he will see this thread and give his viewpoint.

BTW-it is the second of the 2 scenarios you mentioned

Agree with MH. However, there are degrees in both cases. If a customer had one part modified on an otherwise standard model is it now custom made? Likewise, do all the parts have to be made by hand with hand tools to qualify as hand made?

"Hand made" and "custom made" are often confused with and substituted for a more knowledgable assesment of an item's actual quality - much like brand name is. "Mortimer Snerd hand made only custom made guns. So, when I see his name on a gun I know a high price is justified." As opposed to, "What is the quality grade of this gun made by Mortimer Snerd?"

Geno,
Agree with Mike and Rocket,

Custom Made: The "Client" ( oneself, a customer or patron ) select the fundamental elements; image, design, style technique, size and color for the artist/craftsman to make or render ... a custom made item is a item that is considered to be of ones own design or a modification or extension of a defined guideline of a certain item.

Hand made: From scratch.... No machines involved.

TC - in my book, a brace and bit is a machine. Just my opinion though.

"custom" and "hand made" are watch words to ask further questions. What is not "stock normal"? How was it done?

Brent,

Fair enough, I would agree with that.
