Hi all, just curious to know how many of you have hunted with a shotgun with a Greener Side Safety?
What are your thoughts on it and was it hard for you to master?
Thanks so much and Happy Fathers Day!
Greg

Greg, I used a nice 16 ga. Greener with such a safety last year. It didn't seem hard at all to get used to.

Not an improvement on a tang safety but easy enough to get used to.

Or try the safety on a Manufrance Ideal. Works in the opposite direction of normal safeties.

Not too handy for a southpaw. Much prefer a tang safety.

I have a ca. 1881 Greener Facile Princeps middle quality (twenty guinea) gun with the side safety. Its ok for stand shooting on duck or dove and is good on turkey, but I haven't gotten familiar enough with it to use for quail or other walked up birds. Its easier than remembering which way to move the safety on the Darne or the Manufrance Ideal though..Geo

Yeah, I've got a c1886 12g F16; 6lbs even of wand which smites game...
I tend to rely on the safety between my ears; but find the side safety neatly out of way - so not easily bumped - but a little awkward to get to...

THE only thing I don't like about Darne's is the side safety. You can use them no problem but they are slower and you have to resist the tendency to put them to OFF before a flush.-Dick
