Hamnd made is not custom made if it duplicates another of the same. I make pens on a lathe and have made several thousand pens. All have been hand made. No more than a dozen have been custom made. Even ordering a type of wood or a style that I make is not custom made. This is a combination not a design alteration.
The same has to be said for most of the British double guns. They were finished out of stock inventory most of the times so they were not custom made. Hand made in as much as fitting and finishing is always a hand job. But it is not like you could call up Boss and order them to make a gun out of a block of steel with only hand tools and hand labor.
Gun making has always been forced to be efficient or they would not be able to make a gun at a profit. So evey machine step that can be done that replaces a hand step is embraced by most of the makers. So even modern Bespoke guns are mostly machine made and have limited hand finishing. And to be fair modern CNC machines would have been embraced by all makers 100 or 150 years ago by every maker if they had been available. It is a bussiness not a labor of love or a religion.
