OP Michael Petrov Sidelock Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 6,881 Alaska	Most of the pre-war Shelhamer rifles I have seen have it. Looks like the "Niedner" buttplate to me. When they were made at Niedners if they showed color after hardening they were left that way, if not they were blued. MP Sadly Deceased as of 2/17/2014
