There was a movie made back in the 50s or 60s starring Rock Hudson of all people. He played the manager of A&F as I remember it. Seems like it was a decent movie.
As an aside: I've always lusted for a G&H rifle. I was at an auction several years ago which had a Parker DH and a G&H. My budget would only stretch enough to cover one and I opted for the Parker.

When I was a kid, visiting the gun floor of the San Francisco Abercrombie and Fitch was even better than lurking at the airport magazine stand trying to sneak peaks at Playboy.

Agreed about A & F - a real shame. NYC still has a couple of nice gun shops. Beretta's store on Madison Ave. and then you have the Holland and Holland store too.
Nothing like London though. If you are a lover of fine guns a trip to London just for going through the gun shops is worthwhile.

As a child, I remember the A&F store in Atlanta, in Phipp's Plaza, had a gun department. Hard to imagine now.
Heading to England in the fall and looking forward to browsing through some of the gun shops there.

Being only 22, it's so weird to hear about places like Abercrombie & Fitch, Marshall Fields (now Macy's), JC Penny's, Sears, etc all having guns stores/sections.
How long ago did all of this stop?

If you want to see nice doubles, go to Vintagers this fall in RI. There will be more fine guns there than in all the London shops combined.
Same thing with Galazan's place in CT.
Last time I was in London I was pretty let down by the used guns I saw. Visiting Purdeys & Hollands was cool, but the used guns they had in stock were disappointing. The new guns were just plain bad.

Adam Most of this positive display of firearms stopped back in the 70s or 80s when the chief plague of our times kicked in called political correctness. We'll continue to pay heavily for this virus for years to come. Jim

It happened when all the liberal, types from the 60's moved into adulthood and realized that being employed in government was a better, easier gig than having to work for a living. This was most especially true in the teaching environment. It gave them power over others and a chance to test out their warped fantasies on impressionable young minds. Political correctness was amongst the least of their legacies. An absolute lack of, or distorted impression of our history, the Constitution and Bill of Rights were the most nefarious results.

A&F handled some really nice guns. My Model 280 Sauer 20ga, imported by A&F in 1936, is my go-to grouse and woodcock gun. And it's great to be able to track down the history on most A&F guns, thanks to Bob Beach at Griffin & Howe.

Yes, political correctness has been and continues to be the 'Trojan Horse' for America. Funny how those same students of the 60s, professors now, were crying 'academic freedom' are very intolerant of other views today.
