Humor aside, Halvey makes an interesting point. There are a hell of a lot more guns in the US than there are hunters, and gun ownership has gone up even as hunting licenses have gone down. 
If push came to shove, I'd give up hunting before I'd give up home defense. But if we're politically astute, we won't have to give up either.
