I hand-filed this one in fruitwood years ago, just to see if I could do it. As I remember it took several hours of careful work. It still has layout lines and is in need of refinement. Brownells sold a pressed horn sunburst grip cap eons ago. I put one on a small ring sporter 7x57 I built in gunsmithing school.

A checkered horn buttplate could be a very desirable item, but I probably wouldn't want screw holes.
