Calico Hardwoods use to have a display as in Shotgun News that must have been 30 plus years ago. I called and asked for the densest AAA Claro two piece blank that they had. They send a very fancy blank that was just short of petrified wood. I sent it it Mike K for duplication of my stock and he said it was the hardest Claro he had even seen. It was like concrete to inlet and the person who checkered said it could have been checkered in 32 lpi. So they did have some Claro fit for any job back then and most likely do now for the asking. Sadly I made the mistake of selling that gun years ago. One of a few that I wish that I had back.

I like Calico as a company. Even though my purchases have been mail-order, they are always helpful and patient, trying hard to see that I get what I want.
As to Claro, it's a gorgeous wood. My only caution would be to be extra careful in selecting a blank with good structure through the wrist.

Many thanks for the information. I am interested in what was said about Mike Larson by Joe Wood. What is he e-mail and/or web site? I would like to see what his work is like.
