Glenn, Doug, myself, and others have had many skeleton plates pass through our hands over the years in this business. There have been thickness discussions by many.

One of the most disappointing things about skeleton plates is the screws pulling themselves through thin screw webs. Yes, I know that the screws are not suppose to be used for basic inletting. However, the final fitting requires many on and off procedures in order to get the inletting correct. Slave screws work well, but the web still is stessed. The desire is to have a piece of wood that looks like it grew through the buttplate without having liquid inletting applied(epoxy). Sure is a pain to have to weld up the plate and remachine the web after many hours of fitting.
