I am new to Browning O/U shotguns and I am looking for some info a gun that looks like a superposed action. The barrel is marked Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique and Made in Belgium on the other side of barrel. The action is coin finished engraved with 2 pigeons on each side with scroll and flowers. The fences are deeply engraved with some leaves. The recoil pad says Browning white line but it is possible that some one has changed it. Is this an FN or a Browning gun. I am assuming that it should say browning either on the action or barrels if it is made by Browning. Although it says Funken in very small letter on corner of the action, hard to see unless you look closely. Any info with model & value will be appreciated. Thanks

Funken signed Pigeon Grade Superposed, a wonderful old gun SWEET!!! Long tang, round knob gun?? What chokes? Any modifications? How long is length of pull? The following auction is on the LOW side of the value curve. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=298614896

Looks like a Trap model to me. I can't discern if the forearm is a semi-bevertail or not, but the forearm checkering rising only to the mid-height of the forearm indicates to me a "Trap" forearm. See page 123 of Ned Schwing's Superposed book. If the Drop At Heel (DAH) is around 1-7/8" then it's a Trap version. From the apparent Length Of Pull (LOP), it looks like very little wood was removed from the stock when the pad was installed....only enough to remove the slight curve, to add pad to a straight line surface. So I would expect the LOP to be approaching 15" - just GREAT. My $0.02 cents, anyway.

Serial #, gauge, chamber length, barrel length, chokes are all required to give any evaluation of what you have other than a Pigeon Grade, Funken engraved(one of the best engravers). Trap and Magnum Grade will have a factory installed pad, Field Grades can have a factory installed pad but you will need to contact the Browning Historian with serial number for that info. Browning USA will only have info if the gun was imported into the USA by Browning USA, otherwise info will have to come from FN Belgium. It's a very nice Super but need more info. In any event Browning never made Supers, just FN made Supers, Browning imported the Super from FN. Since you don't have any Browning markings, it's probably safe to say that it was not imported by Browning.-Dick

Hi, all 'Browning' Shotguns are made by FN (Fabrique Nationale, Herstal Belgium) Can't remember the exact story now, but Mr. Browning had some problems/opposition in the US at the time and decided to produce his guns in Europe. He sold his patents to FN in Belgium who have ever since made these guns. This one looks like one of the 'handmade' FN-Brownings - in Europe known as Model B25 later (and cheaper) models have the parts manufactured in Japan and are then assembled in Belgium (also in the US?) to allow a european/US? 'made in' stamp to be applied. I attach some pics of my Browning B25 B2 made in 1975 and engraved by Rosa Bee, sister of Angelo Bee, both of whom worked for FN/Browning at the time Regards Gunter

'Trap and Magnum Grade will have a factory installed pad"....H'mmm...depends on date of manufacture. Quoting from page 122 Ned Schwing's Superposed book - "Trap models built between 1952 and 1959 were sold without a factory recoil pad as standard."

Thanks every one for the info.
12 ga, 2 3/4 chambers. The barrels are 30" inch, there is a barrel selector by moving the safety. The safety is not automatic.
Chokes are * and **
Serial is 467xx.

I have the exact same gun except solid rib, slender forearm, under 7 lbs. It is an FN made gun though not marketed by Browning. I assume it was originally marketed in Europe unless imported by whomever was licensed to bring non-Browning FN items into the USA. Mine also has side panels ala the B2 shown.
