NC Wildlife Resources have apparently declared war on our resident geese.
The season is Sep 1-29, shooting hours are extended to 1/2 hour after sunset, electronic calls allowed. The daily limit is 15! (a meer 30 in possession is max.)
Folks, we don't need a game bag for this hunt, we need a pickup truck.
The best change of all since these are resident geese, we're allowed full use of gun, no plugs. I have some of those new fangled repeaters that need the dust kicked off.
I haven't heard if lead shot is allowed.
The debate will be: Do I go after 15 dove, 15 geese or a mixed bag?

hmm, 4s or 7 1/2s

The biggest problem with resident canada goose shooting in the South is what to do with the carcasses after you shoot'em. These are not the same delicious grain fed birds we find on the Saskatchewan prairie! Our resident geese live off dead mole crickets killed with insecticide by the local golf courses. They smell bad when you clean them!

We have the same wide open season deal here in GA, but nobody seems interested in taking the Fish and Game Dept up on their generosity...Geo

I'll bet lead is still illegal.

Just to clarify, my tongue-in-cheek "whussaplug" was not meant as a promotion of unplugged semi-automatics, but rather as a sarcastic way of saying that doubles don't have them.

Obviously I should have been clearer.

Is there any way to cook suburban geese to make them edible? Dunno about the insecticides, but I was badly disappointed in Bay Area geese last winter.

I just use the breast portion and cut it into cubes about 3/4 inch and then caserole as I would beef. Tastes fine to me that way. Lagopus.....

"whussaplug" roughly translated, from proper Southern, means, who has a plug? (of tobacco). The owner of said plug being obliged to cut off a chunk and share. Least where I grew up.

We have a similar September season in NJ with the same limits and the same non-restrictions on guns. Problem is in North Jersey the geese are found on golf courses, played from sun up to sun down, schools, public parks, shopping centers, corporate parks, etc. No place to really hunt them that I can figure. I would guess that this is the same as in other states. Any ideas?

Sadly what you find at local supermarkets is probably less healthy for you. I have talked to someone worked at slaughter house and pretty much gave up on store bought meat altogether.
