..."But given all the serial numbered parts inside a Smith gun, combined with the additional internal finish work given higher grade Smith guns; I think that scenario is a stretch in this instance given the crude manner in which those numbers on the barrels of this gun were altered; don't you?..."

A stretch in this case to think their skill might allow them to pull it off I'd agree,,but not to at least attempt it.
I'm guessing someone has purchased this gun in the past as it is. Unless this is the first attempt to troll it around for sale.
One of the posts said it's been up for sale before.
Full upgrades w/ser# & grade changes are done all the time.
LCS, Colt, Fox,,you name it. It's no secret.
The degree of finished look 'originality' varies of course.
Building an upgrade to a factory letter is common. Seeing three people show up at a large mid west gunshow,,each with a same ser#'d AH Fox HiGrade is a little uncommon. But they all matched the factory specs ,,,amazing,,not.
Unfortunetly sometimes the owner wants to believe it's 'real' even after asking for opinions and having been told otherwise.
They rationalize how the gun got to be in the grade and condition it is.
At times nothing will convince them otherwise even though shown plain as day evidence and more.
So there's always a market.
As I said,,just having a bit of fun,,certainly no gloating on my part. I could have been wrong too!
I look forward to your articles in DGJ.
