For any of you gents who place light recoil high upon your list of musts in 12 ga. shells, I have found a great load for you.

I was at a major sporting shoot recently, that had a S x S event, and was looking through the vendors for some shells, hoping to find some lower velocity stuff to use in the S x S event in my BSS. I always use 1 1/8 oz. loads to compete, but the lighter weight and the barrel configuration of the BSS, as compared to my MX-8s, makes it jump a bit in my hands on recoil of the first shot. The movement of the gun is a little disconcerting for me, being used to the big Perazzi just sitting there. I have shot some really good scores with the BSS using these Rio 1 1/8 oz. loads (on the left) at about 1250 fps, but was running low and wanted to try something a bit lighter in the BSS.

A vendor was selling B & P and Clay Cartridge Co. shells and suggested I try these B & P Competition One loads, at 1160 fps. He said they were as light shooting as Federal Gold Medal papers. Man, was he right! I bought a flat and couldn't believe how soft they were in recoil. I actually believe they may be lighter recoiling than the Federals.

Have no idea as to the pressure of them, but if anyone wants to try a light shooting 1 1/8 oz. factory load, I can recommend these. I really liked them, and used them in the main event Sunday in the Perazzi, just for the heck of it. They break targets just fine.

They also sell these in 7/8 and 1 oz. loads, also at 1160 fps. I cannot imagine what they would be like.

Stan - I second that emotion. I have used the B&P Comp One 7/8 loads in both my 8.5 lb Mx2000 and my 6.5 lb Webley & Scott 700 and have been very happy with them in both guns. They break targets well and definitely help with the recoil management.

I like the free shipping too.

My only complaint with B&P is their limited subgauge offerings. I keep asking and they keep saying there is not enough demand.

Stan, I shoot the competition I loads a lot as well and really like them. I think the Gordon recoil reduction system in their shells may work (B and P claims it decreases recoil by 10%). I really like their 20 gauge 1 oz loads for hunting too. Kill birds great and not near as much recoil as a 20b Remington Express.

He was selling them at the shoot for $70/flat. Said he would have them at the Nationals in San Antonio for $66, I think. If I had known I'd like them so much I'd have bought more. Oh well, "opportunity only knocks once".

They also publish pressure and velocities of all flavors of their shells on that web site, but someone recently said on this web site that their published pressures are actually about a 1000 psi lower than the actual pressure. I think Drew Hause made that statement. Still, they are really nice shells and a pleasure to shoot.

The 16g F2 Classic is factory listed at 9,867 psi but testing by Tom Armbrust in 2007 or 2008 showed it to be 10,500. The problem is apparently coverting CIP to SAAMI pressures.
That said, B&P MB Classic 1 1/8 oz. is my big country pheasant load, and I'm anxious to try the Competition One 7/8 oz loads.

They publish discount codes in some of the SC magazines, I believe.

There is no question in my mind (what little is still left) that their shells do recoil a little bit less. I've shot a bunch of their target loads and their hunting loads are the only thing I use anymore.

Stan, The B&P Competition One(was called the 2000) is about all that I shoot in my SxS guns, particularly in competition. The pressure is about 6600 psi. Please E mail me who will have those at the Nationals as I need some more and the shotgun shell room at the Nationals do not carry them. I have nothing that they will not break and the recoil is soft. Last year at the National someone was shooting ahead of me with a 7 1/4 lb gun and using the Win. Super SPorts 1 1/8. I convinced him to use a few of my B&Ps. He was shocked at the lack of recoil and how they broke targets. The "Gordon System" they use is a factor in recoil reduction also.
