I believe you. But, there are other ways to reduce recoil besides reducing payload. I agree that reducing shot payload is the most effective, but reducing velocity helps, too. That's a lot of the reason why the 1 1/8 oz. load I mentioned is so soft. I tend to go the other way, staying on the heavier side of the payload and reducing the velocity. An added benefit to this is that reducing velocity results in improved patterns.
I guess I'd rather have two pellets hit the bird at 700 fps than one at 720. That's about the diff in velocity downrange. JMO.
